Our Mission
Nourishing Outreach Madison is rooted in the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching, which invites us to honor human dignity, promote the common good, and care for the vulnerable. Our mission is to walk alongside our homeless neighbors in Madison with compassion, respect, and humility. By providing meals and building authentic relationships, NOM hopes to cultivate a community where every person is truly seen, known, and loved. We recognize that caring for the poor is not simply an act of charity, but a fundamental moral and spiritual responsibility.
Our
Story
At the end of 2023, after returning from a service trip, NOM’s founder felt increasingly convicted by the reality of homelessness, isolation, and suffering present in downtown Madison, as well as the gap in local outreach services.
What began as a personal conviction quickly became a shared mission. With the encouragement of close friends and a trusted priest, a small group came together to begin putting that vision into action. On NOM’s very first outreach night, that group prepared a meal and walked the streets of downtown Madison, offering food, conversation, and community to neighbors experiencing homelessness.
What began as a small act of faith eventually grew into a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. At its core, our mission is not to “fix” people. Rather, we seek to meet people where they are, while honoring their inherent dignity.
This often looks like sharing a meal, celebrating birthdays, advocating alongside social workers, sitting with someone in grief, and simply listening.
We hope to continue this work faithfully, and we invite others to join us in prayer, presence, and service.
